Nathan H Not a bad follow-up for Lee Jeong-beom, but with expections very high, it does feel like it falls victim to the sophomore curse, but not to the point that you lose all the fun. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/27/24 Full Review harris r The writing had issues. This wasn't nearly as tightly written as Jeong-beom Lee's hit The Man from Nowhere 2010, as it was riddled with convoluted scenes and plot holes. The entire almost two-hour runtime didn't flow smoothly, even with the somewhat decent pacing. There was much clarity missing in many scenes, of which some of those could've been omitted. The narrative wasn't as engaging as it should've been. There were also many shake-your-head moments that were either too overdramatic, and/or unbelievable nonsense. It did have amazing action and gore scenes, with enough blood to make even the audience slip on it. The casting and performances were decent - although some cliched. The cinematography and score were on point. Nevertheless, it's not as bad as the critics say, and it's a fun one-time watch. Just don't expect this to be as great as Lee's 2010 gem of a film. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A very long, confusing mess. There's a huge number of anonymous people swirling around the two central characters, many of them being brutally killed and you're never sure why. Rated 1/5 Stars • Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Dhruv S Absolutely a fantastic film. The action might be a standard affair but the story and the emotion that this film evokes is insane. It is brutal in not only the action but the real feeling of a mother who just lost her child now dragged into another fiasco. Definitely give this movie a shot Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/15/19 Full Review Audience Member The expectation was high for director Lee Jeong-beom and star Jang Dong-gun but the movie didn't do well in cinemas. But a movie's success shouldn't be measured by how much it earns. No Tears for the Dead is very effective when it comes to delivering what South Korean action is known for without forgetting about the emotional aspect without the need for romance. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member While not entirely an original plot (think along the lines of The Replacement Killers) the story involves a hitman named Gon who while doing a job accidentally kills a young child by mistake. He is then told the job was incomplete and is then given the task of going after a woman who also happens to be the child's mother. Clearly dissatisfied with being a hitman he reluctantly flies to Korea for the job but then ends up trying to protect the woman from other assassins one of which is a good friend of his. The action sequences are great, the gore is just right, and the ending is not what you would necessarily expect. Very well done as the only drawback is it tends to shift from English language to Korean so it is something you have to pay attention to fully. Great great movie though and highly recommended.10/10 Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
